Grant Activities

1. Implementation of “enhancing environmental safety through regulation and safe use of agrochemicals, disposal and recycling of used containers”: With funding support from USAID Market Systems Resilience Activity (MSR), EBNA Royal Consult implemented a grant activity titled “enhancing environmental safety through regulation and safe use of agrochemicals, disposal and recycling of used containers” from May 13, 2024 to May 12, 2025.

Achievements

  • Baseline needs assessment of gaps in the agrochemical sector in five (5) districts namely; Yendi, Nanton, Gushegu, East Mamprusi and Mamprugu Moagduri conducted and report compiled to guide implementation of the grant activity
  • Developed training manual and curriculum on safe use of agrochemicals and disposal of agrochemical containers for use in training input dealers and farmers
  • Built the capacity of 156 input dealers and farmers at Mion, Yendi, Gushegu, Nanton, East Mamprusi and Mamprugu Moagduri districts on safe use of agrochemicals and disposal of agrochemical containers.
  • Started a process of establishing centralized Points of Collection (POCs) in fourteen (14) communities of seven districts (7) using metal cages to serve as points for disposal of used agrochemical containers for off-taking and recycling into other usable products.

2. Improved Productivity through Smallholder Access to Fertilizer and other Agriculture inputs using Farmers Inputs Service Hubs (FISH): With funding support from USAID Mobilizing Finance in Agriculture (MFA), EBNA Royal Consult facilitated the set-up of ten (10) Farmers Input Supply Hubs (FISH) using vibrant Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs) to increase smallholder farmers access to agriculture input (chemicals and fertilizer) and increase farm yields and household incomes in ten (10) communities of the Wa East, Nadowli/Kaleo, Sissala East, Sissala West and Daffiama Busia Issa Districts of the Upper West Region of Ghana.

Achievements

  • Successfully negotiated with five (5) large-scale input dealers (fertilizer and chemicals) to supply 1,217 bags of assorted fertilizer (valued at GHC452410) and 411 litres of assorted chemicals (valued at GHc22,534) to about 499 smallholder farmers using the 10 community input shops as the vehicle to enhance farmers access to these critical inputs at the community level.
  • All the ten VSLA Input Service Hubs made a total margin of GH¢8,133 with no reported case of default to input suppliers.

3. Implementation of Market-Driven Cashew Apple Processing (MD-CAP) grant activity: Withfunding support from USAID fund Ghana Trade and Investment (GTI) Activity, EBNA Royal Consult implemented a grant activity dubbed “Market-Driven Cashew Apple Processing” (MD-CAP) in the West Gonja District of the Savannah Region of Ghana. Thirty (30) cashew apple (fruit) women processers are being supported with technical training and support in cashew apple value addition (i.e. juice, jam and khebab), business management training, good hygiene and provision of simple processing equipment and logistics to up-scale their cashew apple processing businesses.

Achievement

  • Twenty-nine (29) beneficiaries gained additional knowledge and experience in cashew apple value addition with focus on juice, jam and ‘khebab’
  • Twenty-nine (29) beneficiaries gained additional knowledge and experience in personal hygiene and quality standard practices during processing
  • Three central cashew apple processing centres put in place at Canteen, Larabanga and Busunu
  • Project beneficiaries supported with five (5) locally fabricated hydraulic press cashew apple juice extractors, PPEs (i.e. wellington boots, hand gloves, nose masks, overall), juice bottles, preservatives and packaging boxes
  • Beneficiaries being supported to obtain business certificates, FDA registration and labels for their processed cashew apple products.

Advocacy Project Implementation

1. Advocacy implementation, organizational development and fundraising: Contracted byAVSF Equity Program to support Fair Trade Ghana Network (FTGN) in the implementation of their advocacy activities in the cocoa sector and fundraising from December 2022 to December 2023.

Achievements

  • Developed a five-year strategic plan (2023-2027) for FTGN
  • Enhanced the advocacy capacity of BOD, members and advocacy committee of FTGN
  • Conducted and developed a comprehensive research report on Ghana’s Cocoa Sector
  • Developed Advocacy Strategy on key issues in the cocoa sector
  • Provided technical support to FTGN in preparation of Press Releases and Position Papers for engagement with duty bearers in the Cocoa Sector of Ghana

2. Advocacy research and preparation of advocacy strategy: Conducted research and developed advocacy strategy for Youth Harvest Foundation on “Increasing Investments in the Rice and Vegetables Sector” under the MARKETS project in eight districts of the Upper East Region (March 2019).

Achievements

  • Developed research report and advocacy strategy to serve as a guide for engagement with duty bearers in the rice and vegetables sector.

Project Evaluations

1. Project endline evaluation: Conducted Endline Evaluation of “Harnessing Opportunities for Prisoners and Ex-Convicts” (HOPE) Project – Phase II for CSD Reform between November to December 2023 in the Tamale Metropolis of the Northern Region of Ghana.

Achievement

  • An evaluation report submitted and approved by CSD Reform to guide the design of future projects

2. Project rapid performance review: Conducted Rapid Performance Review of “Dignity for All (D4A) Banana Project” covering workers and staff of Golden Exotic Limited (GEL) and Volta River Estate Limited (VREL) in the Eastern Region (October to November 2021)

Achievement

  • Rapid performance review report submitted and approved by Fairtrade Africa

3. Project endline evaluation: Conductedend-line evaluation of “Hundred Children Go To School” project for SOS Children’s Villages Ghana at Zuozugu in the Northern Region from May to June 2021

Achievement

  • Findings of endline evaluation presented to staff and selected beneficiaries and final evaluation reported submitted and approved by SOS Children’s Villages Ghana.

4. Baseline assessment of bee farming value chain and development of business plan: Conducted baseline assessment and developed business plan for A Rocha Ghana on bee farming value chain in 7 selected CREMA communities of the West Gonja and North Gonja Districts of the Savannah Region of Ghana (December 2019 – January 2020) under the Noe’ Man & Nature Project.

Achievement

  • Baseline report and business plan on the bee farming value chain developed and approved by A Rocha Ghana for implementation

5. Baseline assessment of bee farming value chain and development of business plan: Contracted by NORTHCODE Ghana to conduct baseline assessment and develop business plan on bee farming value chain in 8 selected CREMA communities in the Sawla/Tuna/Kalba District of the Savannah Region (December 2018 – January 2019)

Achievement

  • Baseline report and business plan on the bee farming value chain developed and approved by NORTHCODE Ghana for implementation

Trainings and Events

1. Development of Prevention of Violent Extremism (PVE) leadership training manual and training on leadership: Contracted by Creative Associates under the USAID OTI/LRI project to conduct training on PVE leadership selected chiefs and Fulbe leaders of the North East Regional House of Chiefs at Walewale and Nalerigu (October, 2024).

Achievement

  • Six (6) training modules in PowerPoint on leadership, traditional authority and leadership, resistance or openness to change, branding and positioning, communication skills and networking and lobbying skills developed.
  • The capacity of 66 chiefs enhanced to enable them exhibit good leadership in their communities for peaceful co-existence and development
  • Comprehensive report of the training sessions compiled and submitted

2. Development of Prevention of Violent Extremism (PVE) leadership training manual and training on leadership: The CEO of EBNA Royal Consult Ltd partnered with a lecturer of the University for Professional Studies to deliver training on leadership forFulbe Chiefs in the Northern, Upper West, Savannah, Upper East, Eastern, Bono East, and Greater Accra regions of Ghana. The training was under the auspices of Creative Associates International with support from the USAID Office of Transition Initiatives (OTI) Littorals Regional Initiative (LRI).

Achievements

  • Six (6) training modules in PowerPoint on leadership, traditional authority and leadership, resistance or openness to change, branding and positioning, communication skills and networking and lobbying skills developed.
  • The capacity of 103 Fulbe chiefs enhanced to enable them exhibit good leadership in their communities for peaceful co-existence and development
  • Comprehensive report of the training sessions compiled and submitted

3. Development of Prevention of Violent Extremism (PVE) leadership training manual and training on leadership: The CEO of EBNA Royal Consult was contracted by Creative Associates International under the USAID Office of Transition Initiatives (OTI) Littorals Regional Initiative (LRI) to develop training manuals and deliver training on PVE leadership for members of Savannah Region Queen Mothers Association (February, 2022).

Achievements

  • Training modules in PowerPoint on the concept leadership, roles and qualities of good leaders, why the need for women leadership, conflict related issues in the Savannah Region, chieftaincy institution and the role of queen mothers, effective leadership role in a crisis, effective communities and community mobilization.
  • The capacity of 81 queen mothers  enhanced to enable them address gender inequality issues and other development challenges in the Savannah Region.

4. Development of Prevention of Violent Extremism (PVE) leadership training manual and training on leadership: The CEO of EBNA Royal Consult was contracted by Creative Associates International under the USAID Office of Transition Initiatives (OTI) Littorals Regional Initiative (LRI) to develop training manuals and deliver training on PVE leadership for members of Gonjaland Youth Association (September, 2022).

Achievements

  • Training modules in PowerPoint on the concept leadership, roles and qualities of good leaders, why the need for women leadership, conflict related issues in the Savannah Region, chieftaincy institution and the role of queen mothers, effective leadership role in a crisis, effective communities and community mobilization.
  • The capacity of 162 members enhanced to enable them strategically position themselves to effectively contribute to the prevention and management of conflicts and violent extremism and promotion of peace building in the Savannah Region.

5. Training on cashew apple value addition: Conducted capacity building training on processing (value addition) of cashew apple into juice, jam and ‘khebab’ for selected women cashew farmers in the Savannah Region of Ghana under the Tree Aid Ghana’s GRACE Project (February 2020).

Achievement

  • Comprehensive and practical training manual and other training materials (i.e. videos) developed on cashew apple value addition
  • Over 150 women cashew farmers received knowledge in cashew apple value addition with focus on cashew apple juice, jam and khebab.

6. Trade exhibition on cashew apple value addition: Conducted trade exhibition on cashew apple value addition with focus on juice, jam and ‘khebab’ involving women cashew farmers under the Tree Aid GRACE project (December 2020) at Damongo in the Savannah Region.

7. Training on organizational policies, fund-raising and development of five-year strategic plan: Conducted training for staff and BOD members of GHANECARE on organizational policies, fund-raising and facilitated the development of five-year strategic plan for the organization (January 2021).

8. Training on cooperative development, business development and financial management: Contracted by A Rocha Ghana to conduct capacity building training for five (5) community shea collectors groups on cooperative development, business development and financial management in the Savannah Region of Ghana (December 2020).

  • Developed practical training manual on cooperative development, business development and financial management.
  • Over 100 shea nut pickers received knowledge in cooperative development, business development and financial management.

9. Training on basic financial management and records keeping, resource mobilization and fund raising and concept development: Contracted by Centre for Democratic Development (CDD Ghana) to build the capacity of twenty (20) local partners of CDD Ghana on basic financial management and records keeping, resource mobilisation and fund-raising and concept development in Kumasi (November 2020).

10. Training on cashew quality nuts (moisture content, nut count, kernel out-turn ratio and defective rate): Contracted by NORTHCODE Ghana to build the capacity of selected cashew lead farmers on quality cashew nuts (moisture content, nut count, kernel out-turn ratio & defective rate) at Damongo in the Savannah Region (December 2019).

11. Training on business management and records keeping: Contracted by TRAX Ghana in September 2021, September 2019 and September 2024  to build the capacity of selected artisans  and women traders in business management and records keeping and management of Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs).

Achievement

  • Over 100 artisans and traders acquire knowledge in business management and records keeping and management of VSLAs

12. Training on the concept and practice of advocacy: Contracted by Development Frontiers to build the capacity of 30 executives of Development Frontiers Women Cooperative on advocacy under the STAR Ghana Action for Voice and Inclusive Development (AVID) project at Salaga (July 2023)
